wolcc - about senior pastor julius r. sims Born and reared in the state of Tennessee, Julius R. Sims was nurtured by the close connections of family and community citizens. During his impressionable season of adolescence Sims accepted the gift of salvation. This eternal decision was not difficult due to the caring efforts of church members and the preaching of the Bible within the Baptist church his family attended. Greatly influenced by his parents who were teachers and other esteemed relatives who were educators, pursuing a college education was expected.
A 4 year athletic scholarship afforded Sims the opportunity to earn a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts Education from Virginia State University. Upon graduating, a teaching job was offered and accepted within the public school system in St. Louis, Missouri. Eventually discerning the need to advance his educational awareness, Sims earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction. His vocational resume’, his spiritual development and Sims’ work in ministry are as follows: servant/leader within a local church structure (8 yrs.); ministry as a Deacon; youth leader; Assoc. pastor; curriculum-based Bible college instructor (2 years); Prison Outreach & Halfway-House ministry; 30 years as a classroom teacher (Public School); 19 years as a high school coach; motivational speaker& sports camp volunteer with the F.C.A. In 1993 he founded the Word of Life Christian Church, (WOLCC-STL), an inner city, non-denominational ministry in the north St. Louis, Missouri area where he serves as Senior Pastor. Pastor Sims considers himself a “preacher-teacher”, striving to give listeners something they can take in life with them. “I believe in making the Bible very plain and relevant" says Pastor Sims, who illustrates biblical truths concerning contemporary life through revelatory teachings. Pastor Sims served as a Youth Pastor before founding WOLCC-STL with a primary focus on letting teenagers know they have been given a divine purpose in life; whether they know it or not.
